2018

Formation of Static Dress

Static Dress was formed in 2018 in Leeds, West Yorkshire by drummer Sam Kay, bassist Connor Reilly, guitarist Tom Black, and vocalist Olli Appleyard. Before forming the band, Olli Appleyard had been working as a photographer and videographer for other bands, and some members had been part of a previous band called Galleries. Initially, they experimented with various musical styles, starting with hardcore punk, but did not release music from this phase. This formation laid the foundation for their distinctive blend of rock music.
2019

Debut singles and live debut

In 2019, Static Dress made significant strides by releasing their debut single "Clean" on August 14, accompanied by a music video directed by members of the band. They made their live debut on October 3 at a Glasgow practice room, opening for Decay, followed by performances in Leeds and Liverpool. They quickly gained recognition and were invited to open for established bands like Dream State and Creeper on their headline tours. On November 28, they released their second single "Adaptive Taste," further building their profile in the rock scene.
2020

Touring and new singles amid COVID-19

Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Static Dress stayed active in 2020. They supported Counterparts on a UK headline tour in February, performing alongside Can't Swim and Chamber. On the tour's final date, they livestreamed a performance titled "Time To Reset." The band released several singles including "Safeword" in April with a FaceTime-filmed video due to lockdown restrictions, "Indecent" in July, and "For the Attention of..." in September. They continued to gain momentum and built a dedicated following through these releases and live appearances.
2021

Lineup changes and debut EP "Prologue..."

2021 was a pivotal year for Static Dress. The band performed at the Download Festival pilot in June and Slam Dunk Festival in September, solidifying their presence in the festival circuit. Prior to these events, guitarist Tom Black and drummer Sam Kay left the band, leading to the addition of anonymous masked guitarist Contrast and drummer Sam Ogden. The band toured supporting Yours Truly and Higher Power. They released the single "Sober Exit(s)" in November, which preceded their debut EP "Prologue..." released on December 3. The EP launch was complemented by a comic book illustrated by Tanya Kenny and written by Olli Appleyard, showcasing their multimedia creativity.
2022

Debut album "Rouge Carpet Disaster" and touring

In 2022, Static Dress opened for acts like Knocked Loose and Terror and prepared for the release of their debut album "Rouge Carpet Disaster," announced on February 14 with a release date of May 18. The band released singles including "Such a Shame" in February and "Fleahouse" in April. They headlined their first UK tour in April and later toured the United States from November to December, supporting Loathe. This period marked their transition from an emerging band to established rising stars in the rock scene with expanding international exposure.
2023

Bassist departure and Roadrunner Records signing

In early 2023, bassist Connor Reilly departed from Static Dress, citing personal reasons. Despite this lineup change, the band continued their upward trajectory by supporting major acts such as Bring Me the Horizon on their European tour in February. On May 18, they announced a deluxe edition of "Rouge Carpet Disaster" to be released on September 15, along with a reworked version of "Courtney, Just Relax" featuring World Of Pleasure. Additionally, they revealed their signing with Roadrunner Records, a significant step in their professional career, highlighting their growing influence and ambition within the rock music industry.

Story of Static Dress

Hailing from Leeds, West Yorkshire, Static Dress exploded onto the UK rock scene in 2018. This quintet, currently comprised of vocalist Olli Appleyard, drummer Sam Ogden, bassist George Holding, guitarist Vincent Weight, and the enigmatic masked guitarist known only as Contrast, has quickly built a reputation for their intense and eclectic sound. Their journey began with a different lineup, featuring Appleyard (who previously honed his skills as a photographer and videographer for other bands), bassist Connor Reilly, and guitarist Tom Black, along with original drummer Sam Ogden. These members, some hailing from a previous band called Galleries, experimented with various styles, initially dabbling in hardcore punk before solidifying their distinctive sound. Although their early hardcore explorations remained unreleased, their trajectory was set. The band first grabbed attention with the release of their debut single, "Clean," on August 14th, 2019, complete with a striking music video directed by Appleyard and Ogden. Since then, they`ve unleashed a full-length studio album, three EPs, and a collection of powerful standalone singles, solidifying their place as a force to be reckoned with in the modern rock landscape.
