Poor layout, poor groundskeeping, sparse amenities, audio issues.

review

This was the first time SNW was hosted at this venue, but it appears as though the people running the SNW event, are not very good at logistics, or perhaps the venue did not provide much support. The location of the stages was pretty bad, and traveling between them was a pain. They had the VIP "lounge" entrance bottlenecked down to just 3 lanes. Going from one side of the main stage to the other, you had to climb stairs that were also overcrowded. The VIP viewing areas were off to the side of the stage. Cheaper tickets had a better view. There were next to no seating options for VIP to take a rest. The few seats there were, were always occupied every time i walked passed them. I had to find the general "Garage" area to lay down and rest from the extreme heat. Which brings me to my next point, there was next to no dedicated shaded areas and the ones that were, were also so crowded and occupied, some people were just screwed. 90,000 people attended this concert. The shaded and seating areas probably accomodated 1,000 people at most. The side stages (spiral and diablo) had audio issues. I don't care how popular a band is, every stage should have the same treatment to audio, so the listeners can enjoy a concert they spend 400 to 1,800 dollars on. Sound issues are unacceptable at a concert. The audio is the whole point. They had staff handing out water bottles at some of the stages. I managed to get one of them. That to me, should be bare minimum care for attendees, not considered a "bonus". To get ice cooled water, you had to pay for it. The VIP toilet stalls ran out of toilet paper and were not restocked. The only thing that i considered great about this concert "festival" was the large screens on the sides of the stages that were of good pixel density. I would not attend this festival again, if the logistics remain this bad. There was nearly no grass to sit on, it was either concrete, asphalt, rocks, or a mixture of dead grass and rocks. My feet were absolutely killing me. I had on a brand new pair of Puma shoes, that felt really great to walk in, but standing on hard surfaces all day from 10am to 12pm, was brutal. I would like a partial refund for the audio issues alone.

We had a great time at SNWTX! There was plenty of space. The lack of cell service was an issue but I’m not sure how much they are able to do anybody that. I loved that we were able to rest in the bleachers when needed. Some of the bands in the beginning had some sound issues but overall we loved it!

Sick New World Texas is live. Best set so far?

Answer in the comments, or make your own post. Photos from the crowd are welcome, and so is anything useful for people still walking in, like where the water line is short. Blue and Gold sit side by side and take turns all day. From 5pm it's Knocked Loose 5:00 (Gold), Marilyn Manson 6:05 (Blue), Evanescence 7:10 (Gold), Slayer 8:20 (Blue), Deftones 9:20 (Gold), then System of a Down at 10:35 (Blue). Pace yourself. If your phone is dying, ChargeFuze rents chargers east of Diablo and west of Spiral. The official map marks water and shade. Set time changes go here too, so everyone else sees them.

5 bands on the SNW lineup you NEED to see (that aren't headliners)

tip

Everyone's going to see SOAD and Korn. Here are 5 acts lower on the poster that could be the highlight of your day: 1. Acid Bath — This is their reunion after 28 YEARS. They broke up in 1997 after bassist Audie Pitre was killed by a drunk driver. If you're into sludge metal, this might be the most important set of the entire festival. Don't sleep on this. 2. Knocked Loose — Arguably the hottest heavy band on the planet right now. Their live show is a wrecking ball. Get there early if you want to survive the pit. 3. Glassjaw — Post-hardcore legends who never got the mainstream recognition they deserved. If you know, you know. 4. Carpenter Brut — Synthwave/darkwave that sounds like a John Carpenter movie came to life. Completely different energy from everything else on the lineup — in the best way. 5. Poison the Well — Early 2000s post-hardcore that influenced half the bands on this lineup. A perfect "I was there" moment. Who else are you adding to this list? Drop your underrated picks

The golden era of sweaty pub rock photography (pre-1980)

There is an unmatched, chaotic energy in band photography from the late 70s, right before massive stadium tours smoothed out the rough edges. Looking at AC/DC between 1976 and 1979 is the perfect example—they don’t look like global rock gods yet, just a gang of guys who plugged into a wall and turned it all the way up. We need to get better at archiving this specific era of photography on the wiki. The unpolished, cramped-stage, cigarette-smoke-in-the-lens shots are pure history. The stadium years are documented to death, but the club days are where the actual story is. Who has the best pre-1980 band photos? Drop your favorite unpolished shots of legendary bands before they blew up.

Was any band’s early era more chaotic than The Cure in the 1980s?

We always talk about The Cure like they arrived fully formed as these untouchable goth pioneers, but looking back at their actual early years, it’s a miracle they survived at all. Their first label was a German disco imprint that dropped them because the music was too depressing. Then there’s the time they got kicked off a Generation X tour because Lol Tolhurst stumbled into a backstage bathroom and accidentally peed on Billy Idol. Even when they hit their creative stride recording 'Pornography', they were basically living in a literal mountain of empty lager cans and sleeping on the floor of the record label office. And let's not forget Robert Smith's dad making him go back on tour after he quit during a fistfight with Simon Gallup in Strasbourg. It makes their massive stadium success later on feel even more insane. What’s your favorite unhinged story from a band’s early days? Is there any group that had a messier come-up than early Robert Smith and co?

A recently resurfaced photo from a legendary Metallica gig in California 23 years ago

A recently resurfaced photo from a legendary Metallica gig in California 23 years ago is a brutal reminder of the band's unmatched live energy during that era. Looking back at the raw crowd shots and setlists from the early 2000s, it's wild to see how global titans playing massive venues still carried the ferocious hunger of a gritty garage act. They just had this rare ability to make a sprawling arena feel like a sweaty, claustrophobic club show. Archiving these specific eras—the deep-cut setlists, the tour lore, and the nights where everything just clicked perfectly on stage—is exactly why we're building out their wiki over on The Band Index. It’s too easy to lose the history of these defining shows, and digging into their gig archive is the absolute best kind of rabbit hole.
