2010

Formation of Slothrust

Slothrust was formed in 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts, by Leah Wellbaum and Will Gorin while they were students at Sarah Lawrence College. They had been collaborating musically in various school groups before deciding to create music with a heavier sound, thus forming Slothrust. The band's name is a combination of Wellbaum's former project "Slothbox" and the word "rust" symbolizing the passing of time.
2012-2013

Debut Album 'Feels Your Pain' and Early Recognition

In 2012, Slothrust released their debut album, 'Feels Your Pain,' which featured their lead single "7:30 AM." This track gained prominence by being chosen as the opening theme song for the FX television series 'You're the Worst,' providing the band with valuable exposure. During this period, Slothrust also collaborated with Wreckroom Records to record a cover of the Turtles' classic "Happy Together." These early successes helped the band establish a foothold in the alternative rock scene.
2014

Release of Second Album 'Of Course You Do'

Slothrust followed up their debut with the release of their second album 'Of Course You Do' on February 18, 2014, through Ba Da Bing Records. 2016-2017

Signing to Dangerbird Records and 'Everyone Else' Era

In 2016, Slothrust signed with Dangerbird Records and prepared for their third album. They premiered the single "Horseshoe Crab," a deeply personal and dark narrative about love, loss, and existential anxiety. Their third full-length album, 'Everyone Else,' was released on October 28, 2016. This album marked a tonal shift from their earlier angrier works to a more introspective and dream-like quality. They supported 'Everyone Else' with a tour including opening for Highly Suspect and a sold-out headline show in Brooklyn. Throughout 2017, the band toured extensively, including performances at major festivals such as Lollapalooza and a UK tour supporting Manchester Orchestra. 2018-present

Release of 'The Pact' and Recent Developments

On September 14, 2018, Slothrust released 'The Pact,' their fourth studio album, followed by a two-month tour. They continued to engage fans with music videos for tracks such as "Peach" and "Double Down." In 2021, they announced their upcoming fifth album, 'Parallel Timeline,' set for release in September with singles like "Cranium," "Strange Astrology," and "The Next Curse." That same year, controversy arose when former bassist Kyle Bann was accused of misconduct, leading to his departure from the band. Subsequently, Brooks Allison joined as the new bassist, and the band continued touring. Slothrust remains active and evolving, maintaining their presence in the alternative rock landscape.
