2000

Formation of Ice Nine Kills

Ice Nine Kills was formed in 2000 in Boston, Massachusetts, originally under the name Ice Nine by high school friends Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz. The band went through early member changes including the recruitment of drummer Grant Newsted in 2003 and bassist Hobie Boeschenstein in 2004. That year, they recorded a demo that was eventually released as The Pop-Punk-Ska Years in 2009.
2006

Debut Album and Early Touring

The band officially changed their name to Ice Nine Kills and independently released their debut album Last Chance to Make Amends on April 20, 2006. They followed this with their EP The Burning in November 2007. These early works helped establish their initial sound and presence in the local metal scene. They supported their releases by touring nationally, opening for bands like I See Stars, Eyes Set to Kill, Paramore, and participated in the Taste of Chaos tour in 2009.
2009

Lineup Changes and Signing with Ferret Music

Midway through 2009, co-founder Jeremy Schwartz left the band, leaving Spencer Charnas as the only original member. Charnas then recruited former members of Rochester's post-hardcore band Remember Tomorrow, which led to a shift in their musical style towards experimental metalcore. After a performance on Warped Tour 2009, Ice Nine Kills was signed by Ferret Music, marking their first major label deal and the start of a new chapter in their career.
2010

Release of Second Album 'Safe Is Just a Shadow'

On July 12, 2010, Ice Nine Kills released their second album Safe Is Just a Shadow. This release featured a mix of harsh and clean vocals, including contributions by Dave Sieling. The album was critically recognized and brought the band invitations to notable events including the Revolver Golden Gods awards.
