Story of TRSH
Hailing from Springfield, Missouri, the four-piece outfit TRSH carries forward the rich Midwest emo lineage pioneered by bands like Modern Baseball and Marietta. Their signature sound fuses riff-driven melodies with vulnerable, emotionally raw lyricism that chronicles hitting rock bottom and the messy fight to claw back—a candid intensity often wryly juxtaposed against absurd titles like “Dad Rock,” “Taco Tuesday,” and “Hyperpop Killed My Dog.”
Formed in 2021 by vocalist/guitarist Derek Berry, guitarist Gunnar Pennell, bassist Keiran Andrews, and drummer Bowen Pennell, TRSH exploded onto the scene almost immediately when the standalone single “Dad Rock” surpassed ten million streams. They channeled that momentum into a remarkably prolific 2022, unveiling their debut LP, Kiss Me—a collection of concise, micro-epic anthems clocking in mostly under three minutes—followed months later by the hard-hitting full-length Soporific, and capped by Dog People, a collaborative split EP with Oklahoma’s SUNFO.
After sustaining their creative surge through a string of top-tier singles and EPs—including 2023’s “Fire Department,” 2024’s Straw Chairs, and their Wax Bodega label debut “I Really Am Feeling Better”—TRSH delivered their next major artistic statement with the late-2025 full-length, String Theory.
