Band Timeline
2001
Formation of Descartes a Kant
Descartes a Kant was formed in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, by composer Sandrushka Petrova as a teenager in the early 2000s. Originally an all-female band, they started by performing at local parties. The band took its name from a philosophy book chapter titled "From Descartes to Kant," reflecting the contrasts in their musical style during their early phase. Their music was self-described as a "bipolar-schizoid sound," combining sweet melodic tones with dissonant and strident noises. Their style was a unique blend of noise rock, punk, surf, electronic music, new wave, and jazz, complemented by theatrical live performances with distinctive outfits.
2007
Release of Debut Album Paper Dolls
After spending several years developing their sound and undergoing lineup changes, Descartes a Kant released their first album, "Paper Dolls," in 2007. The album was put out through the independent Mexican label Discos Intolerancia. This debut marked their emergence from the local underground scene and showcased their eclectic mixture of musical genres. Paper Dolls helped to establish their presence in the Mexican rock scene and set the stage for future international recognition.

It was a breakthrough for the band, enabling their first international tours across Russia, South America, Europe, Central America, and the United States. The album's complex themes and innovative sound broadened their audience and solidified their reputation as a distinctive and theatrical rock group.

The band's third studio album, "Victims Of Love Propaganda," was released in 2017 and marked their first album recorded in the United States with acclaimed engineer Steve Albini in Chicago. This concept album centered around Western love and propaganda about happiness. The release was accompanied by a theatrical 3-act concert presented in major theaters in Mexico City and Guadalajara, emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach to music and performance. They toured extensively in Mexico, Europe, the United States, and South America. They also opened for renowned acts such as Bauhaus, Cibo Matto, and Dead Cross and performed at internationally recognized festivals like Roskilde, Iceland Airwaves, Vive Latino, and SXSW among others.
