Story of The Prodigy
Get ready to ignite the dance floor! The Prodigy, the pioneering English electronic music titans, have been unleashing their signature brand of electronic punk since 1990. Formed in Braintree, Essex, the band is the brainchild of visionary producer, keyboardist, and songwriter Liam Howlett.
Known for their high-energy live performances and groundbreaking sound, The Prodigy reached their peak with a lineup that included the iconic MC and vocalist Maxim, the electrifying dancer and keyboardist Leeroy Thornhill, and the unforgettable vocalist and stage presence of Keith Flint. (Rest in Peace, Keith!).
Described by AllMusic as "the premiere dance act for the alternative masses" and the "Godfathers of Rave," The Prodigy exploded onto the scene during the underground rave movement. Their early anthems like "Charly" and "Everybody in the Place" dominated the UK charts in 1991, laying the foundation for their legendary status.
Their debut album, Experience (1992), cemented their rave credentials. However, The Prodigy refused to be confined, pushing boundaries with Music for the Jilted Generation (1994), a critically acclaimed masterpiece that fused techno, breakbeat, and rock elements.
The Prodigy achieved global domination with their explosive third album, The Fat of the Land (1997). This record conquered charts worldwide, reaching #1 in 16 countries, including the UK and the US. It spawned the unforgettable, chart-topping singles "Firestarter" and "Breathe," instantly becoming electronic music classics. The album also courted controversy with "Smack My Bitch Up," a UK Top 10 hit that sparked debate with its provocative lyrics and music video.
While Leeroy Thornhill departed in 2000, and the world mourned the loss of Keith Flint in 2019, Liam Howlett and Maxim continue to carry the torch, ensuring The Prodigy`s legacy as true innovators of electronic music endures. Explore their albums and experience the energy that made The Prodigy a global phenomenon – a true force in rave, big beat, and electronic rock!
