Story of Miss May I
Miss May I stands as a formidable force in American metalcore, hailing from Troy, Ohio. Formed in 2007, this powerhouse quintet quickly caught the attention of Rise Records, signing a deal in 2008. Their blistering debut album, Apologies Are for the Weak, dropped through the label while the members were still teenagers attending high school, showcasing a remarkable early maturity and ferocity. This inaugural release immediately made its mark, storming the charts to hit No. 76 on the Billboard 200, a phenomenal No. 29 on Billboard`s Top Heatseekers (a crucial indicator for emerging artists), and a solid No. 66 on the Top Independent Albums chart.
Beyond critical acclaim, Miss May Is potent sound permeated mainstream culture. Their track "Forgive and Forget" was prominently featured on the *Saw VI Original Motion Picture Soundtrack*, while the albums incendiary title track, "Apologies Are for the Weak," fueled the action in the popular video game Saints Row: The Third, cementing their presence across various media.
Remarkably, Miss May I maintained a nearly ironclad lineup from their inception until 2024, a testament to their enduring chemistry and vision. The only early adjustment saw bassist Ryan Neff briefly depart in 2007 before returning to the fold in 2009. However, 2024 marked a significant shift with the departure of long-standing guitarists B.J. Stead and Justin Aufdemkampe.
The band`s prolific output continued to define their journey. Following their debut, they unleashed Monument on August 16, 2010, followed by At Heart on June 12, 2012, Rise of the Lion on April 29, 2014, and Deathless on August 7, 2015. In a pivotal career move on June 24, 2016, Miss May I transitioned from Rise Records, signing a fresh deal with SharpTone Records. This new chapter culminated in the release of their sixth studio album, Shadows Inside, on June 2, 2017, marking their impactful debut under the SharpTone banner.
