Story of Kreator
Kreator, one of the undisputed titans of German thrash metal, exploded out of Essen in 1982, cementing their place among the genres founding fathers. The bands current, formidable lineup features iconic frontman Miland "Mille" Petrozza on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, powerhouse drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil, shredding lead guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, and virtuosic bassist Frédéric Leclercq. Across their relentless 43-year career, Kreator has navigated various lineup shifts, particularly in the lead guitar and bass positions, a common odyssey for bands with such an enduring legacy. However, the fierce core of Kreator remains anchored by its two original architects: Mille Petrozza, the unwavering visionary, and Jürgen "Ventor" Reil, who, despite a brief hiatus from 1994 to 1996, returned to reclaim his rightful place behind the kit. Sami Yli-Sirniö has maintained a veteran presence on lead guitar since 2001, while the dynamic Frédéric Leclercq joined in 2019, taking over bass duties from Christian "Speesy" Giesler, a long-serving member from 1994.
Kreators formidable discography boasts an extensive catalog, featuring fifteen full-length studio albums, two EPs, two explosive live albums, and three essential compilation albums, each a testament to their powerful sonic assault. From their raw beginnings, Kreator quickly cultivated a devoted underground fanbase across the global thrash metal community. Their visceral second studio album, *Pleasure to Kill* (1986), is widely revered as a seminal, genre-defining masterpiece – a benchmark of extreme metal aggression. Their relentless output continued with a string of highly acclaimed albums from their classic era, including *Terrible Certainty* (1987), *Extreme Aggression* (1989), and *Coma of Souls* (1990), each cementing their reputation for unrelenting fury and technical prowess. Even as trailblazers – notably becoming one of the first European thrash metal acts to ink a deal with a major label (Epic Records, 1988) – Kreators true mainstream breakthrough arrived later in their career. Their thirteenth studio album, Phantom Antichrist (2012), marked a significant resurgence, but it was its ferocious follow-up, Gods of Violence (2017), that propelled them to unprecedented critical and commercial success, charting highly internationally and storming to the #1 spot on the German album charts. Fans worldwide eagerly await their sixteenth studio album, Krushers of the World, poised for release on January 16, 2026, promising to add another brutal chapter to Kreator`s continuing legacy.
