2009

Formation of Northlane

Northlane was formed in 2009 in Blacktown, Australia, as a metalcore band. The founding members included Jon Deiley on lead guitar, Brendan Derby on drums, Adrian Fitipaldes on lead vocals, Alex Milovic on bass guitar, and Josh Smith on rhythm guitar. The band's name was inspired by the 2007 track 'North Lane' by the British metalcore band Architects. The formation process involved members connecting primarily through the internet and mutual musical interests, with Deiley and Milovic initiating songwriting and recruiting additional members to complete the lineup.
2010

Release of debut EP Hollow Existence and early touring

In January 2010, Northlane released their six-track debut extended play (EP) titled Hollow Existence. This EP was well received, praised for its mature sound and established the band as a tireless live act through extensive touring in Australia. Critics highlighted the band's promising potential despite some derivative elements typical of early work. 2011

Signing with UNFD and release of debut studio album Discoveries

2012

Extensive touring and recording Singularity in New York City

Throughout 2012, Northlane toured extensively, including joining tours across Canada with Counterparts and Stray from the Path, and arenas in Australia supporting Parkway Drive's Atlas tour. After these tours, the band settled in New York City to record their second studio album, Singularity, with renowned producer Will Putney. Release of Singularity and departure of original vocalist Adrian Fitipaldes
