Saliva stammen aus Memphis, Tennessee, und tauchten 1996 in der Rockszene auf. Die knallharte Band machte sich schnell einen Namen, heimste sechs Grammy-Nominierungen ein und sicherte sich einen MTV Award. Ihr Durchbruch gelang ihnen mit Every Six Seconds, das 2001 Goldstatus erreichte. Unter Vertrag bei Island Records markierte Every Six Seconds ihr zweites Studioalbum und festigte ihre Position in der Rockwelt.
Mit ihrem dritten Studioalbum Back Into Your System (2002), das Platz 19 der Billboard 200 erreichte, baute die Band ihren Erfolg weiter aus. Dieses Album brachte einen ihrer größten Hits hervor, "Always", der bis auf Platz 51 der Billboard Hot 100 kletterte und Platz 1 der Modern Rock Charts eroberte.
