Story of The Home Team

Seattle`s own The Home Team has firmly established itself as a formidable force in the modern rock landscape. This dynamic American four-piece, hailing from Washington and formed in 2013, fuses high-energy anthems with compelling lyrical depth. The current powerhouse lineup features founding members Daniel Matson on drums and John Baran on guitar, alongside the distinctive vocals of Brian Butcher and the rhythmic foundation of bassist Ryne Olson.

Since their inception, The Home Team has aggressively hit the touring circuit, sharing stages with rock heavyweights and genre titans such as Don Broco, Senses Fail, Neck Deep, and The Used. By 2025, their prolific output includes a robust catalog: numerous electrifying singles, engaging music videos, their foundational debut EP, and an impressive trio of full-length studio albums. Their latest and arguably most ambitious record, The Crucible of Life (2024), dropped via the influential Thriller Records, marking a significant milestone in their career trajectory.

== History == The genesis of The Home Team traces back to 2013, born from the collaborative vision of guitarist John Baran and drummer Daniel Matson. Both musicians previously cut their teeth in the early 2010s, honing their skills in the aggressive hardcore and metal scenes of the Pacific Northwest. While still active in those heavier projects, Baran and Matson began experimenting with a lighter, more melodic sound, crafting pop-punk leaning tracks as a creative side-project. This sonic exploration soon blossomed into their primary focus after their initial bands disbanded, officially forming The Home Team in 2013.

The band`s inaugural lineup was completed by guitarist Ryan Murgatroyd, bassist Rob Saireh, and vocalist Jairod Collins. This formative period quickly yielded results, with the release of their debut EP, Black Sheep, in 2014, signaling their arrival on the independent rock scene.

A pivotal moment arrived in 2015 with a key lineup change: Jairod Collins departed, paving the way for the charismatic Brian Butcher to step in as the new frontman. With Butcher at the helm, the band independently unleashed their first wave of impactful singles in 2016: the compelling "Burning Gold" and the evocative "Letters from a Friend," setting the stage for their burgeoning sound.

Their relentless drive caught the attention of the industry, leading to a crucial record deal in early 2018. The Home Team officially joined the roster of Revival Recordings, an acclaimed independent label, and swiftly unveiled their debut label single, the infectious "Fashion Forward," solidifying their upward trajectory and expanding their reach within the alternative rock community.
