Story of Nekrogoblikon
Hailing from the vibrant Los Angeles, California metal scene, Nekrogoblikon unleashes a unique brand of melodic death metal infused with an infamously comedic and theatrical goblin-themed sonic onslaught. The bands genesis dates back to 2006, when founding members **Nicky Calonne** and **Tim Lyakhovetskiy** first forged this monstrous vision. Throughout their journey, **lead guitarist Alex Alereza** stands as the bands longest-serving active member, a constant shredding force.
Nekrogoblikon`s formidable discography boasts five full-length studio albums: the raw debut Goblin Island, followed by Stench, Heavy Meta, Welcome to Bonkers, and the latest opus, The Fundamental Slimes and Humours. Fans also cherish their potent EP, Power.
Nekrogoblikon truly burst into the mainstream metal consciousness with their viral sensation, the 2012 music video for "No One Survives". This iconic video introduced John Goblikon, a grotesque yet charming goblin character conceptualized by director Brandon Dermer and brought to life with riotous energy by actor-comedian Dave Rispoli. John quickly transcended the screen, evolving into the band`s beloved official mascot and electrifying live hypeman.
A significant shift occurred in 2022 when musician-comedian Grady Welch stepped into the green skin of John Goblikon for live performances. Following Nicky Calonnes departure in 2023, Welch officially took the reins as the bands new lead vocalist, integrating John Goblikon even deeper into the bands sonic core. Within Nekrogoblikons evolving lore, Welch is cleverly credited as John Goblikons "vocal coach," while Rispoli remains the characters esteemed "writer," preserving the original creative lineage. Beyond the stage, John Goblikon`s charisma spawned his own cult-favorite talk show web series, Right Now with John Goblikon, running from 2015-2019 and again from 2021-2022. This multimedia expansion continues with a long-form podcast series of the same name, launching in 2024, cementing John Goblikon as a true pop culture phenomenon within the metal community.
