Story of Mayday Parade
Mayday Parade, the celebrated American rock band known for their indelible mark on emo, pop-punk, and alternative rock, ignited the music scene in Tallahassee, Florida, in 2005. Their formation was a compelling merger of two prominent local acts, Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment, forging a new powerhouse sound.
Their journey began with a bang: the independent release of their debut EP, Tales Told by Dead Friends, in 2006. This raw, captivating collection became an instant cult classic, remarkably selling over 50,000 copies without any record label support – a testament to their immediate grassroots appeal and undeniable talent.
The buzz surrounding their DIY success quickly caught the attention of Fearless Records, leading to their signing in 2006. Under Fearless, Mayday Parade unleashed their seminal debut album, A Lesson in Romantics, in July 2007. This album would go on to define a generation of emo-pop fans, solidifying their place in the genre. Their meteoric rise continued, culminating in a significant major label deal with Atlantic Records by 2009.
The Atlantic era saw the band further expand their discography and fanbase. Their sophomore studio effort, Anywhere but Here, dropped in October 2009, followed by their self-titled Mayday Parade in October 2011. They continued to deliver fan-favorite melodic anthems with Monsters in the Closet in October 2013, and Black Lines in October 2015, consistently evolving their signature sound.
In April 2018, Mayday Parade embarked on a new chapter, signing with Rise Records. This partnership quickly bore fruit with the release of their sixth studio album, the critically acclaimed Sunnyland, on June 15, 2018. Their seventh studio offering, What It Means to Fall Apart, arrived on November 19, 2021, further showcasing their enduring songwriting prowess and emotional depth.
Looking ahead, 2025 promises an ambitious undertaking from the band: a groundbreaking three-part album. The first highly anticipated installment, Sweet, is slated for release on April 18, with a follow-up set to drop on October 3, ensuring Mayday Parade`s continued presence at the forefront of the alternative music scene.
