Story of Jiluka

JILUKA: Forging a Path in Visual Kei Metal

JILUKA (stylized as JILUKA; Japanese: ジルカ, Jiruka) stands as a formidable force in the Japanese visual kei metal scene. Originally formed in May 2013, the band experienced a brief hiatus before a powerful reformation in February 2015, solidifying their current lineup and sound. Operating with fierce independence, JILUKA releases their potent material through their self-owned label, Faizh Music.

The band’s core consists of dynamic vocalist Ricko, guitar maestro and primary composer/songwriter Sena, bassist Boogie, and powerhouse drummer Zyean. This tight-knit quartet has been incredibly prolific, unleashing a substantial discography to date: one full-length studio album, six compelling mini-albums, one comprehensive greatest hits collection, and twelve impactful singles.

Initially recognized for their cutting-edge blend as "Modern Metal Visual Kei" (V系モダン・メタル, V-kei modan metaru), JILUKA has since evolved, proudly defining their distinctive sonic identity as "Electro Gothic Metal" (EGM). This self-coined genre perfectly encapsulates their intricate fusion of heavy metal aggression, electronic textures, and dark, gothic aesthetics, carving out a unique niche within the highly competitive Japanese music landscape.

JILUKAs meteoric rise hasnt gone unnoticed by industry tastemakers and fans alike. JRock News consistently highlights their prominence, ranking them 12th among the top visual kei and Japanese rock artists of 2019. Their momentum accelerated dramatically, climbing to 3rd place in 2021 and securing an impressive 2nd position in 2024, trailing only the legendary The Gazette – a testament to their growing influence and undeniable talent.

Career: The Genesis and Relaunch

2013–2016: Early Years and Reformation

The journey for JILUKA began in February 2013 with an initial lineup featuring Ricko, Sena, Boogie, and original member JaiL, making their official stage debut on May 6, 2013. However, this early iteration was short-lived. JaiL announced his departure in June, performing his final show on December 21, 2013, which prompted a temporary pause in the band`s activities.

Undeterred, JILUKA relaunched in February 2015 with the addition of new drummer Zyean, injecting fresh energy into the group. This reformation marked a pivotal moment, quickly followed by the release of their high-octane debut single, "Screamer." This was swiftly succeeded on April 8 by their impactful first EP, Brave Agonistic Letters Under Segregation. The band continued their early momentum with the second single, "Lluvia," dropping on November 11. 2016 saw the release of their third single, "Faizh," on April 20 – a title that would later lend its name to their independent label. A significant milestone for the band, JILUKA performed their inaugural solo concert on May 21 in Ikebukuro, signaling their firm establishment in the visual kei scene.
