Band Timeline

2004

Formation of Jack's Mannequin

Jack's Mannequin was formed in 2004 as a solo project of Andrew McMahon, the lead vocalist and pianist of Something Corporate. The project originated from McMahon's desire to release songs that differed in style from his main band. The name Jack's Mannequin was chosen by combining a previous band name idea 'The Mannequins' and a song title 'Dear Jack', initially without much significance, but later gaining deep personal meaning after McMahon was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
2005

Release of Debut Album Everything in Transit and Diagnosis

Jack's Mannequin released their debut album 'Everything in Transit' in August 2005, which was well-received by both fans and critics, peaking at 37 on the Billboard 200. The album was notable for its emotional depth and personal songwriting from McMahon. A supporting tour was planned but canceled after McMahon was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, necessitating a stem cell transplant. Despite these challenges, the album tracks, such as 'The Mixed Tape' and 'Dark Blue', garnered enduring popularity, with 'Dark Blue' going gold by 2013.
2008

Release of The Glass Passenger

In 2008, Jack's Mannequin released their second album, 'The Glass Passenger', on Sire Records. The album debuted strongly, selling 49,000 copies in its first week and reaching number eight on the Billboard 200. It showcased a more mature sound and built upon the emotional themes of McMahon's earlier work, further establishing Jack's Mannequin's presence in the indie rock scene.
2011

Release of People and Things and Project Conclusion

'People and Things', Jack's Mannequin's third album, was released on October 4, 2011. This album continued to explore themes of personal growth and relationships with a polished rock sound. Shortly after its release, Andrew McMahon announced that he would discontinue using the Jack's Mannequin name for future music releases, opting to release music under his own name, marking the end of the band as an active project.
2015

Tenth Anniversary Reunion Tour

On November 30, 2015, Andrew McMahon announced the reunion of Jack's Mannequin for a tenth-anniversary tour commemorating 'Everything in Transit'. This reunion highlighted the sustained fan interest and enduring legacy of the band's debut album. Story of Jacks Mannequin

Jack`s Mannequin, the acclaimed American rock band, emerged from Orange County, California in 2004. Initially a solo project for Andrew McMahon, formerly the frontman of the popular piano rock band Something Corporate, the project quickly gained traction.

Signed to Maverick Records, their debut album, Everything in Transit, dropped in August 2005, reaching a respectable #37 on the Billboard 200. Their follow-up, The Glass Passenger, released in 2008 on Sire Records, enjoyed significant success, selling 49,000 copies in its first week and peaking at #8 on the Billboard 200. People and Things followed in October 2011, but shortly after its release, McMahon announced he would cease releasing music under the Jack`s Mannequin moniker, focusing instead on a solo career.

The bands legacy wasnt over, however. In November 2015, McMahon announced a tenth-anniversary tour for Everything in Transit, reuniting Jack`s Mannequin for a highly anticipated run of shows. The reunion proved successful, leading to further performances in 2024 and 2025, demonstrating the enduring appeal of this influential rock act.

Early Days and Everything in Transit (2004-2007):

Andrew McMahons musical journey began as the lead vocalist and pianist of Something Corporate. The genesis of Jacks Mannequin stemmed from a single song, "Locked Doors," recorded in December 2003, which fueled McMahon`s vision for a new, distinct musical project.
