HIM

Formed in Finland in 1991, HIM stands as one of the most distinctive and influential exports in the history of Nordic heavy music. Pioneering a captivating blend of gothic metal, hard rock, and melancholic alternative pop, the group carved out an aesthetic entirely their own, often recognized under their self-coined banner of love metal. Defined by somber lyrical themes, soaring melodic hooks, and an evocative contrast between crushing guitar riffs and tender sentimentality, the band captured the imagination of an international audience and reshaped the landscape of turn-of-the-millennium alternative rock.

The bands sonic evolution was charted across a sequence of genre-defining releases, beginning with their raw 1997 debut, Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666. They achieved widespread European breakthrough with 1999s Razorblade Romance, an album that propelled their brooding romanticism into mainstream consciousness. HIM maintained their commercial and creative momentum through acclaimed records including Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights in 2001 and the seminal Love Metal in 2003. Their global crossover reached historic heights with 2005`s Dark Light, a polished yet dark collection that cemented their status as a major arena act and broke new commercial ground for Finnish rock in North America.

HIM officially brought their illustrious career to a close on December 31, 2017, concluding more than two and a half decades of music with a celebrated farewell tour. Despite their disbandment, the group maintains an enduring cultural footprint, commanding over 1.5 million followers and consistently strong streaming listenership today. Through their instantly recognizable iconography, emotional intensity, and seamless fusion of goth sensibilities with stadium-sized rock anthems, HIM remains an essential cornerstone of modern gothic rock.
