Formation of Bowling for Soup in Wichita Falls, Texas

Bowling for Soup was officially formed on June 4, 1994, in Wichita Falls, Texas. The founding members were Jaret Reddick (lead vocals, guitar), Chris Burney (guitar, backing vocals), Erik Chandler (bass, backing vocals), and Lance Morrill (drums, percussion). The band's name was inspired by a Steve Martin comedy act phrase. The group grew out of various precursor bands and shared musical influences from heavy metal and punk rock of the 1980s, blending these to create their own rock sound.

Relocation to Denton, Texas, and early releases

In 1996, Bowling for Soup moved to Denton, Texas, to further their career. That year, they released a split album titled Cell Mates with the Denton band The V.I.M.S. This move marked a period of increased activity. In 1998, they released the studio album Rock on Honorable Ones!! through the Denton music label FFROE, and also released their first EP, Tell Me When to Whoa, which helped gain regional success and attention from larger record labels.

Drummer Lance Morrill replaced by Gary Wiseman

Drummer Lance Morrill left Bowling for Soup on good terms in July 1998. He was replaced by Gary Wiseman, who had known the band members from the local Wichita Falls music scene. This lineup change was significant as Wiseman became the drummer from that point forward, contributing to the stability and continuity of the band's sound during their rise to national prominence.

Major label debut with Let's Do It for Johnny!!

Bowling for Soup's major label debut album, Let's Do It for Johnny!!, was released in 2000 after signing with Jive Records. End of Acoustic Side Project Jaret & Erik

From around 1999 until May 2018, Jaret Reddick and Erik Chandler performed acoustic shows billed as Jaret & Erik, featuring acoustic versions of Bowling for Soup songs. Story of Bowling for Soup

Bowling for Soup, the Wichita Falls, Texas natives, burst onto the scene in 1994. The band's current lineup features Jaret Reddick (lead vocals, guitar), Chris Burney (guitar, backing vocals), Gary Wiseman (drums), and Rob Felicetti (bass guitar, backing vocals). Known for their catchy pop-punk anthems, they've scored hits with "Girl All the Bad Guys Want," their cover of SR-71's "1985," "Almost," and the eternally relatable "High School Never Ends." Their contributions extend beyond their own catalog; they also penned the theme song for the Disney Channel's hit show, Phineas and Ferb.

History:

Bowling for Soup's roots run deep in Wichita Falls. Founding members Jaret Reddick and original drummer Lance Morrill connected in 1976. Reddick's musical journey began in 1985 at the tender age of 13. He and guitarist Chris Burney, who met in high school (1986), grew up immersed in the commercially successful heavy metal of Quiet Riot, RATT, and Mötley Crüe, but also found inspiration in the faster-paced punk rock of the Ramones and later Green Day. Burney's family owned "The Refuge," a local coffeehouse with a music stage, where he played with his band The Persecuted. It was there, in the early 1990s, that he, Reddick, bassist Erik Chandler, and drummer Gary Wiseman (who wouldn't officially join Bowling for Soup until 1998) crossed paths. Burney and Chandler later formed the Folkadots, while Wiseman pursued his own project, Gary & the Wiseman.
