Band Timeline

1995

Band Formation and Early Years

Dry Kill Logic was formed in 1995 in Westchester County, New York, originally under the names Hinge and then Hinge AD. During this period, the band developed their heavy metal sound and built a local following. They began performing and recording as an independent band, setting the stage for subsequent releases and name changes prompted by legal challenges.
1997

First EP Release as Hinge

In 1997, the band, still known as Hinge, released their first EP titled 'Cause Moshing is Good Fun' through their own label, Psychodrama Records. This debut EP marked their entry into the music scene and helped them gain attention in the underground heavy metal community. Their do-it-yourself approach demonstrated their commitment to control over their music and career.
1999

Second EP 'Elemental Evil' and Touring

The band released their second EP, 'Elemental Evil,' in 1999 once again through Psychodrama Records. This nine-track release expanded their reach and musical exposure, leading Dry Kill Logic to open for notable acts such as Coal Chamber, Incubus, Anthrax, and System of a Down. These opportunities significantly increased their visibility among metal and alternative music fans.
2000

Signing with Roadrunner Records and Name Change

In 2000, Hinge signed a record deal with Roadrunner Records, a major label known for metal acts. However, due to copyright issues with their name, they changed their name from Hinge to Hinge AD briefly, and then ultimately settled on Dry Kill Logic to avoid legal problems. This marked a critical transition from an independent band to a signed artist with wider industry backing.
2001

Debut Album Release - 'The Darker Side of Nonsense'

Dry Kill Logic released their debut album 'The Darker Side of Nonsense' on June 5, 2001, through Roadrunner Records. The album featured guest appearances from Primer 55 members and reflected the band’s heavy metal style. Following the release, the band toured extensively worldwide with prominent acts like Fear Factory, Slayer, and Kittie. The album sold approximately 100,000 copies, establishing them in the metal scene.
2002

Lineup Change and Departure from Roadrunner

In 2002, Dry Kill Logic parted ways with Roadrunner Records due to creative differences over the desired commercial direction of their music. Around the same time, guitarist Scott Thompson left the band and was replaced by Jason Bozzi, formerly of Gargantua Soul. These changes realigned the band’s personnel and artistic direction as they prepared for their next phase independently.
2004

Release of 'The Dead and Dreaming' and Extensive Touring

On October 5, 2004, Dry Kill Logic independently released their second major album, 'The Dead and Dreaming,' through their own Psychodrama Music Group with support from independent labels Repossession and SPV Records. The release was followed by an intense 15-month worldwide tour including co-headlining tours and a significant appearance on 2005's Gigantour. The band also headlined tours in the UK and Europe and toured Australia, reinforcing their international presence.
2006

The Magellan Complex EP/DVD and Third Album 'Of Vengeance and Violence'

In 2006, Dry Kill Logic produced 'The Magellan Complex,' an EP and DVD package featuring new tracks, live footage, and behind-the-scenes content. This release introduced bassist Brendan Kane Duff and highlighted the band's hands-on approach to reaching fans at a reasonable price. Later that year, on September 19, they released their third full-length album, 'Of Vengeance and Violence,' continuing their momentum with tours across Australia and Europe, marking sustained international activity.

Story of Dry Kill Logic

Dry Kill Logic, the Westchester County, New York heavy metal band, exploded onto the scene in 1995, initially operating under the names Hinge and Hinge AD. Their journey to becoming a force in the metal world is marked by three full-length albums, but their story begins much earlier.

The Psychodrama Records Era (1997-1999):

Four years into their existence, Hinge self-released their debut EP, Cause Moshing is Good Fun, via their own label, Psychodrama Records, in 1997. This was followed by their second EP, Elemental Evil, in 1999, also self-released. This nine-track effort proved pivotal, propelling them to open for major acts like Coal Chamber, Incubus, Anthrax, and System of a Down, showcasing their raw power and establishing their presence in the burgeoning metal scene.

The Darker Side of Nonsense (2000-2003) and Beyond:

2000 marked a significant turning point. Hinge signed with Roadrunner Records, a major label deal. However, this came with a crucial caveat: a name change. A recording studio held the copyright to the name "Hinge," forcing the band to rebrand. After briefly using "Hinge AD," they ultimately settled on the moniker Dry Kill Logic after facing legal threats.

Under their new name, they released their debut album, The Darker Side of Nonsense, on June 5th, 2001. The album featured a guest appearance by J-Sin (vocals) and Bobby Burns (guitar) of Primer 55 on the track "Give Up, Give In, Lie Down," adding another layer to their already compelling sound. The band`s subsequent releases further solidified their reputation in the heavy metal genre.
