2000

Formation of The Used and Early Struggles

The Used was formed in Orem, Utah, in 2000 by members Branden Steineckert, Quinn Allman, Jeph Howard, and Bert McCracken, who joined later as vocalist. Initially, the band struggled with poverty, homelessness, and substance abuse. They started by composing instrumental songs and only later brought in McCracken for vocals after unsuccessful auditions. Early recordings were made in drummer Branden Steineckert's bedroom, with lyrics added by McCracken. The name 'The Used' was settled upon after friends commented on feeling used due to the band's increasing focus on music.
2002

Breakthrough with Debut Album 'The Used'

In January 2002, after sending demos to various labels, The Used signed with Reprise Records just a year after forming. Initially simply called 'Used', the band added 'The' due to a trademark conflict. Story of The Used

Hailing from Orem, Utah, The Used exploded onto the rock scene in 2000. The original lineup – vocalist Bert McCracken, bassist Jeph Howard, drummer Dan Whitesides, and guitarist Joey Bradford – quickly gained traction, catapulting to fame with their self-titled debut album in June 2002. This explosive release was followed by a string of critically acclaimed albums: In Love and Death (September 2004), Lies for the Liars (May 2007), and the B-sides compilation Shallow Believer EP (February 2008).
