Band Timeline
2002
Formation of Dead Sara
Dead Sara was formed in 2002 in Los Angeles when Emily Armstrong and Siouxsie Medley met through a mutual friend. At the time, Armstrong was 16 and Medley 15. Both were guitarists and singer-songwriters who began collaborating and writing songs together in 2003. Their shared passion for music laid the foundation for the band that would later become known for their energetic rock sound.
2005
Adoption of the Name 'Dead Sara'
Initially performing under the name Epiphany, the band changed their name to Dead Sara in 2005. The new name was inspired by a misheard lyric from Fleetwood Mac’s song 'Sara,' which they interpreted as 'dead Sara.' This period marked the solidification of their identity and public persona, with influences from Stevie Nicks and an embrace of their rock roots.
2007-2009
Early Touring and Lineup Changes
During these years, Dead Sara began gaining live performance experience by touring as the opening act for Endless Hallway in 2007. The band released the six-song EP 'The Airport Sessions' in 2008. Through several changes in the rhythm section, the stable lineup came together by 2009, featuring Sean Friday on drums and Chris Null on bass. This era was critical for shaping the band's sound and performance dynamics.
2012
Debut Album and Breakthrough Success
Dead Sara released their self-titled debut album in April 2012 via their own label, Pocket Kid Records. The album was produced by Noah Shain and featured the single 'Weatherman,' which gained substantial radio play and commercial exposure, including use in a Fiat advertisement. The album charted well on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart. In 2012, they toured with Bush and earned the 'Best New Rock Group' award at the Vegas Rocks! Magazine Music Awards, affirming their arrival on the rock scene.
2015
Release of 'Pleasure to Meet You'
Continuing their momentum, Dead Sara released their second studio album 'Pleasure to Meet You' in 2015. This album further showcased their hard rock style and growth as a band. It helped sustain their presence in the rock music landscape, allowing them to build on their earlier success and solidify their fan base through touring and promotion of the new record.
2021
Release of 'Ain't It Tragic'
In September 2021, Dead Sara released their third album 'Ain't It Tragic.' The album continued to demonstrate the band's evolution and maturity, offering a fresh perspective while retaining their core rock energy and powerful vocals. This release marked over 19 years of the band's journey, illustrating their persistence and adaptability in the music industry.
