Between 2008 and 2010, Set It Off self-released multiple EPs and singles which helped them build an early fanbase. Their first EP, Baby, You Don't Tripajaharda, was released in October 2008, followed by Calm Before the Storm in May 2009. They released singles such as 'Hush Hush,' 'Together Forever,' and '@Reply,' with music videos accompanying some of these songs. It debuted in the top 100 Alternative Albums on iTunes, marking a significant step in their professional career. The EP was recorded in North Carolina with producers Brandon Ham and John Harrell.

Release of Debut Album Cinematics
On September 18, 2012, Set It Off released their debut full-length album titled Cinematics, with a deluxe edition dropping simultaneously on iTunes. The band partnered with VH1 Save the Music Foundation, pledging $1 for every album sold within the initial week toward supporting music education programs in schools. The band matched the donation with their own bonus. This release expanded their reach considerably, led by the album's thematic and energetic alternative rock sound, and reflected their commitment to music education.
