Story of Bloodywood
Bloodywood: India`s Trailblazing Heavy Metal Sensation Blending Tradition and Fury
Hailing from New Delhi, India, Bloodywood is a groundbreaking heavy metal band formed in 2016 thats taking the world by storm. What began as a unique YouTube project crafting **metal covers of pop songs** has evolved into an explosive force, catapulting Bloodywood to international acclaim and making history as **Indias first metal act to chart on Billboard!**
The Bloodywood Story: From Parody to Pioneers
The band`s origin story is as captivating as their music. Founder Karan Katiyar, initially a corporate lawyer with a passion for heavy metal, built a following by creating metal parodies of Bollywood hits on YouTube. His search for the perfect vocalist led him to Jayant Bhadula, a talent manager whose impressive vocal range and versatility immediately caught his attention.
In 2016, Katiyar made the bold decision to leave his legal career and join forces with Bhadula to form Bloodywood. Their initial mission? To "destroy pop songs" with their unique blend of heavy metal and Indian sounds.
Viral Breakthroughs and Defining Their Sound
Bloodywood quickly gained recognition for their innovative approach. Their **nu-metal rendition of Linkin Parks "Heavy"** in 2017 became a viral sensation, earning praise from prominent music publications like Loudwire and Metal Hammer, who hailed it as "what Linkin Parks Heavy should have sounded like."
Riding this wave of momentum, Bloodywood continued to release more captivating covers, culminating in the compilation album "Anti-Pop Vol. 1" on Bandcamp. The album showcased their ability to transform familiar tunes into raging metal anthems.
A standout track from this era was their blistering metal cover of Daler Mehndi`s iconic Bhangra/Indi-pop hit, "Tunak Tunak Tun," featuring guest vocals from Bonde do Metaleiro. This cemented their signature style: a high-octane fusion of traditional Indian instrumentation and vocals with the raw power of heavy metal.
In 2018, they followed up with another powerful cover, "Ari Ari," a metal take on the Bombay Rockers` Bhangra track, which itself was an interpretation of the Indian folk song "Baari Barsi." This demonstrated their commitment to honoring their cultural roots while forging their own path in the global metal scene.
