Formation of the band Captives in Leeds and debut single release

The band was founded in 2018 in Leeds, England under the name Captives. The founding members included Christopher McIntosh (initially on rhythm guitar), Benjamin Wilson on lead guitar, bassist Lee Horner, drummer James Lazenby, and lead vocalist Matthew Flood. The band emerged as a British post-hardcore act. Their first single, 'Ghost Like You,' was released on 23 September 2018 via the YouTube channel Dreambound. This marked the official emergence of Captives in the UK alternative music scene, laying the groundwork for their initial fanbase and subsequent recordings.
2019

Release of debut EP 'Ghost Like You' and extensive touring

In April 2019, Captives self-released their eponymous debut EP 'Ghost Like You,' which included previously released singles such as 'Signs' and 'Find a Way.' Prior to the EP release, these singles helped generate early attention for the band. Following the EP, Captives embarked on several tours in Europe, including a European tour supporting Australian post-hardcore band Hands Like Houses and a show opening for Bad Omens in Hannover. The band also performed at various European festivals during the summer, including in Germany and Sweden, as well as shows supporting the Japanese metalcore band Crystal Lake in Germany. In September, they toured the United Kingdom alongside Acres and Parting Gift, debuting a new single 'Falling Apart.' After this busy period, founding bassist Lee Horner left the band for personal reasons. Christopher McIntosh switched from rhythm guitar to bass, and Craig Robinson, formerly of Glamour of the Kill, joined as the new rhythm guitarist.
2020

Release of single 'Falling Apart' and signing with SharpTone Records

On 1 March 2020, Captives officially released the single 'Falling Apart,' which had previously only been performed live. This release was made again via the Dreambound YouTube channel. Shortly after this, the band signed with SharpTone Records, marking a significant milestone in their career by joining an established label known for its roster of post-hardcore and alternative artists. Following their signing announcement, they released a new single titled 'Glass Heart' on 4 December 2020. This period marked the band's transition into a new phase of professional recognition and prepared them for future releases under the label.
2021

Name change to Caskets and release of debut album 'Lost Souls'

In early 2021, the band was forced to change their name from Captives to Caskets due to a legal dispute with an Australian band also named Captives, which held a trademark in the United Kingdom. This legal challenge led to the deletion of their YouTube channel and removal of their music from streaming services temporarily. Approximately two weeks after the rebranding as Caskets, their music and content were restored online. On 7 May 2021, Caskets released the single 'Lost in Echoes,' followed by the announcement of their debut full-length album 'Lost Souls,' which was released on 13 August 2021. The album included key singles such as 'Glass Heart' and 'Lost in Echoes.' The single 'Falling Apart' was also incorporated into newer editions of the EP 'Ghost Like You.' They released a third single from the album, 'The Only Ones,' in June 2021. Following the album release, the band planned a European tour supporting Normandie and Thousand Below, which was postponed and later canceled due to scheduling conflicts and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
2022

Touring plans and support for Dance Gavin Dance postponed

In 2022, Caskets continued to face challenges related to touring due to external circumstances. The band was announced as a support act for the American post-hardcore band Dance Gavin Dance on their European tour originally scheduled for September and October 2022. However, this tour was postponed to March 2023 due to illness of Dance Gavin Dance's lead singer. The band continued to build their presence in the post-hardcore scene through planned live performances, which were consistently impacted by unforeseen scheduling changes and the lingering effects of the pandemic, marking a difficult yet persevering phase in their career trajectory as a rebranded group.

Story of Caskets

Caskets: A Leeds Post-Hardcore Powerhouse

Caskets, hailing from Leeds, England, burst onto the scene in 2018, initially under the name Captives. These post-hardcore titans emerged from the ashes of the band Faultlines, fueled by the creative drive of founding members bassist Christopher McIntosh (who initially played rhythm guitar), lead guitarist Benjamin Wilson, and bassist Lee Horner. The lineup was completed by drummer James Lazenby and vocalist Matthew Flood.

The band made their explosive debut with the single "Ghost Like You" in September 2018, unleashing it upon the world via the Dreambound YouTube channel. Their self-titled EP was announced for release in April 2019, building anticipation with the singles "Signs" and "Find a Way." The EP, a testament to their raw energy and powerful sound, dropped on April 26, 2019.

Caskets wasted no time in hitting the road, embarking on a European tour with fellow post-hardcore powerhouse Hands Like Houses. They also opened for Bad Omens in Hannover, showcasing their electrifying live performance to a growing fanbase.

Summer saw them conquering the festival circuit in Germany and Sweden, spreading their music across Europe. They also supported the Japanese metalcore giants Crystal Lake on a German tour, further solidifying their status as a force to be reckoned with.

September 2019 witnessed Caskets headlining their first UK tour, sharing the stage with fellow rising stars Acres and Parting Gift. This tour was a defining moment, where they debuted the powerful new single "Falling Apart" to an enthusiastic crowd.

Unfortunately, founding member Lee Horner departed the band shortly after the tour due to personal reasons. Despite this setback, Caskets' journey has been marked by resilience and a dedication to their craft. With a passionate fanbase and a sound that's both raw and evocative, Caskets are poised to continue their ascent in the post-hardcore world.
