Band Timeline

2007

Formation of Attack Attack!

Attack Attack! was formed in 2007 in Westerville, Ohio, initially known as Ambiance. The lineup was established by Johnny Franck, Andrew Whiting, Nick White, and Andrew Wetzel, who met Austin Carlile while playing in local high school bands. Caleb Shomo joined as the keyboardist, prompting the band to change their name to Attack Attack!. They self-recorded material which they promoted on Myspace. Andrew Wetzel managed the band in its early phase. In May 2008, under the management of Eric Rushing, they signed a deal with Rise Records, requiring parental consent due to their age. Their early recorded works led to the EP 'If Guns Are Outlawed, Can We Use Swords?' released in 2008.

Debut Album: Someday Came Suddenly and Early Success

In November 2008, Attack Attack! released their debut album 'Someday Came Suddenly' under Rise Records. The album mainly contained songs from their earlier EP, re-recorded for this release. Despite mixed reviews, it gained commercial traction, debuting at number 193 on the Billboard 200 and peaking at number nine on the Independent Albums chart, selling over 70,000 copies by April 2010. The band toured extensively, sharing stages with Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, A Static Lullaby, and others. Midway through their Fall 2008 tour, original vocalist Austin Carlile was removed from the band due to behavioral issues and replaced by Nick Barham.

Lineup Changes and Rising Popularity

In 2009, Attack Attack! toured with Escape the Fate and participated in the Warped Tour, showcasing their growing presence in the metalcore scene. The band's music video for 'Stick Stickly' sparked significant attention, leading to the 'crabcore' meme ridiculing their guitarist's stance. They also covered Katy Perry's song 'I Kissed a Girl' for the compilation Punk Goes Pop Volume Two, which received heavy radio airplay. In October 2009, lead vocalist Nick Barham departed unexpectedly, and Caleb Shomo was made the primary vocalist in addition to his keyboard duties.
2010

Self-Titled Album and Touring

Attack Attack! continued to build their reputation in 2010 by releasing their self-titled album. They supported the album with tours including the Artery Foundation Across The Nation tour alongside bands like Breathe Carolina, I See Stars, and Asking Alexandria. This period marked their evolution in sound and stage presence. Meanwhile, Johnny Franck departed the band in late 2010, affecting the lineup dynamic. Caleb Shomo transitioned fully into a frontman role, consolidating keyboard and vocal duties and contributing significantly to the band's creative direction.
2012

Departure from Rise Records and Transition

By 2012, Attack Attack! made the decision to leave their long-time label, Rise Records. This period saw shifts in the band's activity and internal dynamics, hinting at an impending dissolution. They continued to engage fans with music and performances but faced challenges common in bands navigating changes after years of rigorous touring and recording. These challenges ultimately led to their disbandment the following year.
2013

Disbandment and Farewell Tour

In 2013, after several years of influence in the metalcore scene, Attack Attack! disbanded following a final farewell tour. The decision marked the end of their initial active period, closing a significant chapter in their career. The farewell tour was a chance for fans and band members to celebrate their music and legacy together before the band members moved onto other projects and endeavors.
2020

Reformation Announcement

On October 19, 2020, Attack Attack! announced their reformation. This new chapter involved a lineup combining returning members with new faces, signaling a revival of the band. The re-formation was met with enthusiasm from their fanbase and was indicative of the band's enduring appeal in the metalcore community. This move opened prospects for new music, tours, and engagement with a new generation of fans.

Story of Attack Attack!

Hailing from Westerville, Ohio, Attack Attack! burst onto the metalcore scene in 2007, initially operating under the moniker Ambiance. Their self-released debut EP quickly caught the attention of Rise Records, leading to a record deal that same year. The band's potent blend of metalcore aggression and catchy melodies propelled them to release three full-length albums through Rise: Someday Came Suddenly, their self-titled effort, and This Means War. After a successful run with Rise, Attack Attack! parted ways with the label in 2012 and ultimately disbanded the following year, concluding with a farewell tour. However, the Ohio five-piece's legacy proved far from over. A highly anticipated reformation was announced on October 19, 2020, featuring a mix of original members and new recruits, igniting renewed interest in this influential metalcore act.

The band's genesis involved a convergence of talent from various local high school bands. Johnny Franck, Andrew Whiting, Nick White, and Andrew Wetzel connected with Austin Carlile, eventually recruiting Caleb Shomo on keyboards. This lineup solidified as Attack Attack!, and the band immediately hit the ground running, self-recording material and leveraging MySpace to build momentum and generate buzz before signing to Rise Records.
