Band Timeline

2018

Formation of Vended

Vended was formed in 2018 in Des Moines, Iowa by teenagers Griffin Taylor and Simon Crahan, both sons of members of the band Slipknot. Griffin Taylor, son of Corey Taylor, took on lead vocals, while Simon Crahan, son of Shawn 'Clown' Crahan, became the drummer. They soon recruited bassist Jeremiah Pugh and guitarists Cole Espeland and Connor Grodzicki. The band’s name, pronounced "ven-DEAD," is derived from the word vendetta. Initially, they avoided touring due to their young age and focused on developing their sound independently from their famous fathers.

First Live Performance and Hiatus Due to Pandemic

Vended performed live for the first time in Des Moines in March 2020. This debut concert was an important milestone, marking their transition from a studio project to a performing band. Unfortunately, shortly afterward, they were forced to halt live activities because of the global COVID-19 pandemic which restricted gatherings and touring. This hiatus delayed their potential exposure and delayed touring plans, but allowed them to focus on recording and releasing new music.

Release of Debut EP 'What Is It//Kill It'

In 2021, Vended started to release their recorded works publicly. Their debut single, "Asylum," was released on September 21, followed by a second single, "Burn My Misery," on October 19. These singles led up to the release of their first EP, 'What Is It//Kill It,' on November 12, 2021. The EP, consisting of five songs, showcased Vended's nu metal style and helped solidify their presence in the metal scene. Despite comparisons to Slipknot due to their lineage, the band emphasized their independent musical identity.

Touring and Standalone Singles

In late 2022, Vended embarked on a U.S. tour, performing alongside notable bands such as Jinjer and P.O.D. This tour helped the band reach a broader audience and gain live performance experience. During the year, they also released several stand-alone singles, continuing to build their discography and maintain engagement with their fan base. The band continued to define their sound and identity during this period, resisting direct comparisons to Slipknot despite the family connections and legacy.
2024

Release of Self-Titled Debut Studio Album

In 2024, Vended released their first full-length studio album titled 'Vended.' This release marked a significant step in their career, transitioning from EP and singles to a comprehensive album project. The album consolidated their artistic growth and presence in the nu metal scene, reflecting the band’s musical evolution since their formation. It also reinforced their independent identity, distinct from the influence of their fathers’ band, Slipknot, despite the ongoing interest in their family backgrounds.

Story of Vended

Vended: The Next Generation of Nu-Metal

Vended, the Des Moines-based nu-metal outfit, burst onto the scene in 2018, bringing a fresh, youthful energy to the genre. The band is comprised of two sons of Slipknot members: vocalist Griffin Taylor, son of Corey Taylor, and drummer Simon Crahan, son of Shawn "Clown" Crahan. Joining them are bassist Jeremiah Pugh, and guitarists Cole Epseland and Connor Grodzicki.

The band's name, pronounced "ven-DEAD," is a nod to the word vendetta, reflecting their powerful, uncompromising sound. While their lineage undeniably adds intrigue, Vended are adamant about forging their own path, emphasizing that they are largely self-taught musicians who learned their craft independently of their fathers. Both Corey and Clown have publicly supported this sentiment, highlighting their sons' dedication and talent.

The band's early years were marked by a focus on honing their skills and crafting their own unique sound. They made their live debut in March 2020 in Des Moines, only to be halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they didn't let the setback hold them back. They released their debut EP, What Is It/Kill It, in 2021, along with several standalone singles, steadily building a buzz in the underground music scene.

While Vended might share DNA with their fathers' iconic band, they have proven themselves to be a force of their own. With a sound that draws inspiration from nu-metal's heavy roots, they bring their own energy and perspective to the genre, making them a band to watch for years to come.
