2006

Formation of Pierce the Veil

Pierce the Veil was formed in San Diego, California, by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes after the disbanding of their previous band Before Today. They began writing songs together and decided to create a new band, quickly leading to enough material for a full-length album. This marked the birth of Pierce the Veil as a distinct musical entity blending post-hardcore and punk influences.
2007

Release of Debut Album 'A Flair for the Dramatic' and Addition of New Members

In June 2007, Pierce the Veil released their debut album 'A Flair for the Dramatic' through Equal Vision Records. The album was recorded primarily by the Fuentes brothers with producer Casey Bates. Shortly after the album's release, the band expanded by adding Tony Perry on lead guitar and Jaime Preciado on bass. The band toured extensively that year and in 2008, gaining exposure by playing dates on the Vans Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos tours, which built their reputation in the American post-hardcore scene.
2010

Release of Sophomore Album 'Selfish Machines'

Pierce the Veil released their second studio album 'Selfish Machines' on June 21, 2010, through Equal Vision Records with production by Mike Green. The album showcased a maturation in the band's sound, focusing on themes of human nature and acceptance of selfish impulses. 'Selfish Machines' reached No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, and the band supported it with performances at major festivals like Bamboozle Left and Vans Warped Tour, further solidifying their growing fan base.
2012

Collide with the Sky Released; First Album on Fearless Records

Their third album, 'Collide with the Sky', was released on July 17, 2012, marking the band's debut on Fearless Records. The album featured hit singles like 'King for a Day' and 'Bulls in the Bronx', which became enduring staples of their discography. The album debuted at No. 12 on the US Billboard 200, representing a commercial breakthrough. Following the release, the band headlined their first UK tour and went on the Collide with the Sky U.S. headlining tour, expanding their international presence and critical acclaim.
2016

Release of Fourth Album 'Misadventures' and Continued Popularity

The band's fourth studio album, 'Misadventures', was released on May 13, 2016, via Fearless Records. The recording process was extensive, taking place mainly on Long Island, New York, and featured exploration of personal and contemporary themes, such as the Paris terrorist attacks in the song 'Circles'. The album was well received critically and marked the last album featuring founding drummer Mike Fuentes. The band toured to support the album from 2016 into 2017, maintaining their status as a prominent post-hardcore act.
2017

Mike Fuentes Departs from the Band

In November 2017, allegations of sexual misconduct against drummer Mike Fuentes emerged publicly, leading to his indefinite step back from Pierce the Veil. The band clarified that Fuentes would no longer be part of the group, which was a critical change in their lineup. Despite some confusion in later years due to at-home performance videos, it was confirmed that Mike Fuentes had not participated in band activities since 2017, and would not be on future recordings.
2023

Release of Fifth Album 'The Jaws of Life' Without Mike Fuentes

On February 10, 2023, Pierce the Veil released their fifth studio album, 'The Jaws of Life', the first without original drummer Mike Fuentes. Brad Hargreaves of Third Eye Blind contributed drums on the album, which was produced by Paul Meany. The album marked a stylistic shift incorporating more melodic and intimate sounds with influences from 90s grunge and nu-metal. Preceded by singles like 'Pass the Nirvana' and 'Emergency Contact', the album received positive critical reception, representing a new era for the band with lasting resilience and evolution in their sound.

Story of Pierce The Veil

Hailing from the vibrant San Diego punk scene, Pierce the Veil emerged in 2006. Brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes, following the demise of their previous band, Before Today (formerly Early Times), formed the core of what would become a globally recognized act.
