2013

Formation of Black Map

Black Map was formed in 2013 as a post-hardcore supergroup based in San Francisco, California. The band members came together following hiatuses from their respective bands: Mark Engles from Dredg, Chris Robyn from Far, and Ben Flanagan from The Trophy Fire. This collaboration marked the beginning of a fresh musical project blending their diverse backgrounds into a new sound.

2014

Debut Releases and Early Exposure

In February 2014, Black Map released their first offering, a four-song EP titled 'Driver,' establishing their presence in the post-hardcore scene. Later that year, on October 27, they launched their debut full-length album, '...And We Explode,' through Minus Head Records. These early releases helped the band gain recognition and laid the foundation for their ongoing career by showcasing their energetic style and emotive songwriting.

2017

Second Studio Album Release: 'In Droves'

Black Map released their second album, 'In Droves,' on March 10, 2017, through the label EOne. This album represented the band's continued evolution musically, building on their earlier work with more mature themes and refined production. The release further solidified Black Map's position in the alternative rock and post-hardcore communities while expanding their fanbase through extended touring.

2018

Release of EP 'Trace the Path'

On February 9, 2018, Black Map released 'Trace the Path,' a four-song EP that continued to develop their sound with focused songwriting and instrumental dynamics. This EP served as a bridge between full-length releases and allowed the band to maintain engagement with their audience. During this period, Black Map also toured alongside established acts like Chevelle, Bush, and Circa Survive, gaining valuable exposure.

2022

Third Studio Album 'Melodoria' Launch

Black Map's third studio album, 'Melodoria,' was released on February 18, 2022, through Minus Head Records. The album was produced by Zach Ohren and mixed by Beau Burchell, receiving praise for its dynamic range and sonic ambition. Notable tracks included the anthemic single 'Super Deluxe' and the fan favorite 'Chasms.' 'Melodoria' represented a significant artistic milestone for the band, highlighting their growth and experimentation in sound.

2024

Signing with Spinefarm Records and New Single Release

In September 2024, Black Map announced a major career development by signing with Spinefarm Records. This milestone was accompanied by the release of their first new single in over two years, titled 'Disintegrate.' The single received positive reviews, described as a towering, cinematic anthem that reflects the band's evolving musical style. This partnership with Spinefarm Records signals a new chapter for Black Map, with expectations for additional releases and continued artistic growth anticipated into 2025.

Black Map: A Supergroup of Post-Hardcore Powerhouse

Black Map, stylized as BL⚡️CK MAP, is a San Francisco-based post-hardcore supergroup. This trio, comprised of Ben Flanagan on bass and vocals, Chris Robyn on drums, and Mark Engles on guitar, is a force to be reckoned with, having toured with the likes of Chevelle, Bush, and Circa Survive.

The band formed after their respective members took a break from their previous bands: Dredg (Mark Engles), Far (Chris Robyn), and The Trophy Fire (Ben Flanagan). Their debut release, a four-song EP titled "Driver," hit the scene in February 2014. Black Map unleashed their full-length debut album, "...And We Explode," through Minus Head Records on October 27, 2014.

The band continued to gain momentum, releasing their second full-length album, "In Droves," on March 10, 2017, via their current label, EOne. They followed this with a four-song EP, "Trace the Path," on February 9, 2018, showcasing their signature blend of heavy riffs, driving rhythms, and soaring vocals.
