You Vandal forms in Gainesville

You Vandal formed in Gainesville, Florida, in 2009. The group began with guitarist and lead vocalist John Hill alongside guitarist Alex Aultman, bassist Nick Settle, and drummer Matt O'Hare. Based in the local punk community, the quartet started playing live shows at Gainesville venues such as 1982 Bar and The Atlantic. They wrote an initial catalog of fast, melodic songs influenced by regional Florida punk rock bands and 1990s melodic pop-punk acts.

2010

Self-release of Stories You Can't Share

On June 29, 2010, You Vandal self-released their debut extended play, titled Stories You Can't Share. The six-song record included tracks such as Better Left Unsaid and It's Not a Phase. The band made the EP available digitally through Bandcamp and distributed physical compact discs at local performances throughout north-central Florida. The release established the dual vocal trade-offs between Hill and Aultman that became a regular feature of their arrangements.

2012

Appearance at The Fest 11 in Gainesville

In October 2012, You Vandal performed at The Fest 11, an annual multi-day punk and underground music festival held across Gainesville, Florida. The album was issued on twelve-inch colored vinyl and digital formats, supported by independent tour dates through the southeastern United States.

2017

I Just Want to Go Back to Hell released on Jump Start

You Vandal signed with Pennsylvania-based independent punk label Jump Start Records to release their sophomore studio album, I Just Want to Go Back to Hell, on November 17, 2017. The record contained ten original tracks, including What's Left of Me and Half Asleep. Jump Start pressed the album on multiple vinyl color variants and CD. The band supported the release with appearances at The Fest 16 in Gainesville.

2018

Regional touring and The Fest 17 set

Throughout 2018, You Vandal toured in support of I Just Want to Go Back to Hell. The band scheduled East Coast club dates, sharing stages with labelmates and regional peers. In October 2018, they returned to The Fest in Gainesville for The Fest 17, performing a set at the High Dive on Southwest 2nd Avenue. Their live set featured selections from both of their full-length albums alongside new material.

2022

Pretend I Don't Exist released via Jump Start Records

On February 11, 2022, Jump Start Records released You Vandal's third full-length album, Pretend I Don't Exist. The album contained ten tracks, including the singles Trapped in My Head, Running in Place, and Sinking Feeling. It was engineered and mixed by John Ryan at The Rock Garden in St. Petersburg, Florida. Jump Start issued the record on twelve-inch vinyl in several color pressings alongside worldwide digital distribution.

Appearance at The Fest 21

In October 2023, You Vandal performed at The Fest 21 in Gainesville, Florida, playing a showcase at the Loosey's downtown venue.
