Band Timeline

2013

Formation of I Prevail

I Prevail was formed in late 2013 in Southfield, Michigan. The band quickly established itself with a metalcore style and began rehearsing and performing locally, preparing to release their debut music.
2014

Breakthrough with Heart vs. Mind EP and Taylor Swift Cover

In 2014, I Prevail gained significant attention by releasing a metal cover of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" on December 1, which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and the US Mainstream Rock Songs, and was later certified platinum. Shortly after, they released their debut EP "Heart vs. Mind" on December 17, 2014. Around this time, rhythm guitarist Jordan Berger left the band and was replaced by touring members Tony Camposeo (bass) and Dylan Bowman (rhythm guitar), who eventually became full-time members. The band embarked on tours including the Heart vs. Mind Tour and Massive Addictive Tour.
2015

Touring Expansion and Lineup Stabilization

Throughout 2015, I Prevail continued to tour extensively, including their Crossroads Tour announced in June, supporting bands like Crown the Empire and Hollywood Undead on the Day of the Dead Tour, as well as special shows with Pop Evil. These tours helped them build a strong fan base and gain industry experience.
2016

Release of Debut Album Lifelines and Major Tours

In 2016, I Prevail released their debut full-length album "Lifelines" on October 21. The album featured singles like "Scars", "Stuck in Your Head", and "Come and Get It". Bassist Tony Camposeo left the band in December 2016 to focus on music production. The band headlined the Strike the Match Tour in summer 2016 and supported Pierce the Veil on their Journey's Made to Destroy Tour later that year. In 2017, lineup changes included the replacement of bassist Lee Runestad by Eli Clark and drummer Gabe Helguera joining as touring drummer. Lead vocalist Brian Burkheiser was sidelined in 2017 due to a vocal cord injury, prompting a temporary hiatus for him.
2019

Release of Second Album Trauma and Critical Success

The band released their second studio album "Trauma" on March 29, 2019, after teasing the release with singles "Bow Down" and "Breaking Down". The album addressed themes of mental health and personal struggles, inspired by vocalist Brian Burkheiser's vocal cord injury and depression during 2017. "Trauma" received critical acclaim and significant commercial success, debuting at number 4 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart and earning Grammy nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance for the single "Bow Down".
2022

Release of Third Album True Power

I Prevail released their third studio album, "True Power," on August 19, 2022. The album experimented with a blend of metalcore, post-hardcore, hard rock, rap metal, and nu metal sounds, incorporating new elements such as rap vocals. The album received positive reviews and featured singles like "Body Bag" and "Bad Things," the latter reaching number 1 on Billboard's Active Rock Radio charts. "True Power" was the final album to feature founding clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser before his departure in 2025.
2025

Departure of Vocalist Brian Burkheiser

In May 2025, it was announced that founding clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser was departing from I Prevail. This marked a significant lineup change as Burkheiser had been an integral part of the band's distinctive sound since its formation. The band looks toward future projects with this new lineup shift.

Story of I Prevail

Hailing from Southfield, Michigan, I Prevail emerged onto the scene in 2013. Their initial breakthrough wasn't from their own compositions, but rather a surprisingly successful metal reimagining of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space." Released in December 2014, this audacious cover climbed to #90 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #23 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart, eventually achieving platinum certification. This viral hit propelled the band's 2014 debut EP, Heart vs. Mind, into the spotlight, showcasing their raw energy and distinct metalcore sound. Building on this unexpected success, I Prevail solidified their position with the release of three full-length studio albums: Lifelines (2016), Trauma (2019), and True Power (2022). Their original material proved equally potent, with tracks like "Breaking Down" and "Hurricane" dominating rock radio. The band's critical acclaim culminated in Grammy Award nominations for "Bow Down" (Best Metal Performance, 2019) and Trauma (Best Rock Album, 2019), cementing their status as a major force in the modern metal scene.
