Formation of After the Burial

After the Burial was formed in 2004 in Minneapolis, Minnesota by high school friends Nick Wellner, Trent Hafdahl, Justin Lowe, and Greg Erickson. Initially, Dave Coleman filled in on bass until Lee Foral joined after responding to an ad. The band quickly began crafting their unique sound incorporating elements that would influence progressive metalcore and djent genres.
2006

Release of Debut Album 'Forging a Future Self'

After the Burial released their debut album 'Forging a Future Self' on March 1, 2006. Recorded in late 2005 and distributed via Corrosive Records without an official record contract, this album helped to establish their foundational sound. The band began gaining attention locally and started shaping the modern metal landscape with their breakthrough record.
2008-2009

'Rareform' Album and Lineup Changes

In 2008, the band entered the studio to record their second album 'Rareform.' Justin Lowe handled drum programming while Trent Hafdahl wrote the lyrics due to limited vocal input from then-vocalist Grant Luoma. Shortly after release, Luoma was replaced by Anthony Notarmaso, and Dan Carle joined on drums. After the release, the band toured supporting Suicide Silence and co-headlined with Veil of Maya. 'Rareform' was re-released in 2009 featuring Notarmaso's vocals and bonus content, solidifying the band's rising status.
2010

Release of Third Album 'In Dreams' and Continued Touring

After the Burial released their third full-length album 'In Dreams' in 2010 through Sumerian Records. The band toured extensively, supporting Winds of Plague on the December Decimation Tour in late 2010, and headlining the Crush Em' All Tour in 2011. The album and subsequent tours further expanded their fanbase and cemented their presence in the progressive metalcore scene.
2013-2014

EP 'This Life Is All We Have' and Album 'Wolves Within' Released

In 2013, the band released an EP titled 'This Life Is All We Have,' featuring remastered tracks from their debut with Anthony Notarmaso on vocals. Later that year, they debuted new songs live and officially released their fourth studio album 'Wolves Within' on December 17, 2013. Simultaneously, After the Burial reaffirmed their relationship with Sumerian Records. These releases showcased further evolution in their sound and technical proficiency.
2015

Death of Founding Rhythm Guitarist Justin Lowe

Release of 'Dig Deep' and Departure of Bassist Lee Foral
